A minutes silence was held during the show, in respect of Mrs Carina Hancocks who sadly passed away on Thursday 10th July 2014.
My thanks to the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club for inviting me to judge the summer show and to the exhibitors for allowing me the opportunity to judge your lovely dogs, I consider it a privilege and I enjoyed the day. I found overall quality good with the males slightly edging it over the females. Most of my main winners ticked sufficient boxes for them to deserve their placings but some just stood out. Toplines could be a concern for some as could front assemblies on others, elbows should be close to the chest. Attention to the cleanliness of teeth needs to be a higher priority with a small minority and I was surprised to find the odd exhibit with a missing tooth at an age when they should have the full complement.

Junior Handling 6-11 years (3 entries, 1 absent)
1st: Jacob Green (aged 10); a great well matched pair working well together. Shown and handled so well. Deserved his first here on his excellent straight lines and triangle, good clean presentation of dogs teeth. A bit more concentration on the dog would benefit, especially when he is stood. Well done.
2nd: Niamh Nash (aged 7)7; lovely team co-operating at all times. Presentation of teeth was very good and a nice neat triangle and straight up and back. Dog a shade unruly which told against them, but a lovely pair and I wish them well.
3rd: Issac Green (aged 7)7; what a character! Trying to get the best out of his difficult charge and working as hard as he could. I’m sure on another day places will change, stick at it!
Junior Handling 12-16 years (2 entries, 1 absent)
1st: Jonathan Wells (aged 16)16; excellent handler. Good presentation of both himself and his charge, at all times attentive and getting the best out of him. Teeth shown to me excellently, and impressive neat triangle. Would be pleased to let him show my dogs. Well done. Best Overall Handler.
Brace (7 entries, 3 absent)
1st: Mrs C Lee-Slater; pair of b/w bitches. Such a well matched pair, very sweet and in tune. Moving well together and such a good type. I understand later that they are half siblings, and it shows. Well done.
2nd: Mrs K Diprose; pair of red sable siblings, dog and bitch; different type to to winners and a shade more leg. Well matched, moving well together and enjoying their day out. Very close up to 1, my preference just lending towards the exceptional similarity of the first pair.

Special Open Dog (11 entries)
1st: Ch Burghbridge Black Shadow JW (Mr A K & Mrs E A Bartram); 5 year old, b/w instantly appealed, presented to perfection, beautiful head, correct eye and expression, ears set on well and well fringed, a mouth full of perfect pearly whites, good lay of shoulder and some depth to chest, decent spring of rib. Moving well around the ring with good front action and driving well from behind, lovely in profile. Tail set on well, perhaps carried a shade to close to his back. Good hare like feet. Not jaded at all in this heat and went well to win this nice class.
2nd: Ch Frasermar Farenheit for Rozamie (Messrs J Magri & K Arrowsmith); tri and another 1 with instant appeal. Such a classy dog, full of style and presence, beautiful head and expression, ears set on well, not quite round enough in tip but fringed nicely, lovely neck and shoulders, with good depth to chest, good spring of rib and tail set on well. Masculine but so very elegant especially when moving, coming to life just so sound in front and rear, and a beauty in profile. Just slightly jaded in this heat and so had to give way to 1. Two lovely Champions and I was thrilled to be given the chance to judge them, as they were, until today, unknown to me.
3rd: Feorlig Magic in the Making (Mrs J Barnet)
Res: Lilacrose Magic Touch (Mrs K Diprose)
VHC: Altaya Foreign Affair (Miss K Bull)
Special Open Bitch (8 entries)
1st: Melangel Tilly Tri Star (Mrs M, Miss B & Miss J Mann); almost 2 year old tri bitch of good overall make and shape, good to go over on the table, good skull not too rounded, nice earset and rounded tips with fringes starting to come, lovely dark eye of correct size and well pigmented features. Decent width through front and elbows lying close to chest, all leading into a good spring of rib, well set on correctly plumed tail and strong enough topline. A lovely bitch on the move, driving well from the rear and plenty of reach in front. Lovely going around in side profile and showing well to win this good class.
2nd: Powdermill Look Now at Lilacrose (Mrs K Diprose); 18 month red sable bitch, another nice one, good head and expression, not the softness of 1 but a lovely dark eye of good size. Good earset and some lovely fringes, skull just right for shape, fair width through the front and lovely neck with fair spring of rib. Tail set on well, of good length and plume starting to come. Very good mover fore and aft, and showing a lovely side profile on the go around.
