Referee: Mr Glenn Rob (Gleniren/Sunshoo)
Junior Handling Judge: Mr Glenn Rob (Gleniren/Sunshoo)

Best in Show: SKYVANNA REDDY TO GO TO TONKORY (GREGORY Mrs J)
Sue Stanbury: For myself, personally I would have been happy for either my dog CC winner or the bitch to go through; therefore I was happy to agree with my co-judge, Mr Rob Sansom, who thought that the bitch had the edge. I am sure that Rob has written a lovely critique for her, but I thought that I would write a few words as she is such a lovely specimen of the breed and congratulations to her owner & to her breeder on not only winning BIS, but also for making her up on the day. She looked a real picture, when going around the ring.

My thanks to all exhibitors for entering and to my two superb Stewards, who helped to make my judging run so smoothly. It is especially important, when there are two rings to have this in place. I know this from my own experience, as I missed one of my classes here last year, through no fault of my own. I also would like to thank, hardworking Show Manager, Chris Slater, who took time to make sure that all the exhibitors were not overlooked, when trying to manage showing in both dog & bitch rings.

I am afraid I have to say that my initial anticipation turned to slight disappointment, fairly quickly after I started judging the Pap dogs. I can’t speak for the bitches, as I didn’t judge them.

I am sure that a lot of you will not want to hear this, but although, I must say that I was extremely happy with my main winners, there were a lot that I thought should not be there and if this means that I do not get to judge again or have a far smaller entry should I be asked to judge again, then so be it. I would be far happier to have a smaller entry of sound moving happy dogs, any day of the week. Rightly or wrongly I have a thing about movement and the most depressing aspect of my judging today was the fact that I would spy a cracking specimen entering the ring and think, ‘this is the one’ only to have it move. I think at this stage, I should say that had I been judging on grass, it may well have been a different story, as you have to give a bit of leeway with the uneven ground. Unfortunately concrete is not so forgiving. That is the nature of showing. Fortunately I did not witness any dogs strung up on the move, but I found quite a few high stepping dogs, which I do not personally like and have noticed, judges either turning a blind eye or not knowing the standard, which states ‘Movement light, free-flowing, positive and free from any restriction. Viewed from in front or behind, legs and feet moving parallel to each other, with feet turning neither in or out. Viewed from side, dog covering ground with no hint of hackneyed action. I also have no doubt that at all that those that I have not placed highly today will go onto have brilliant show careers and for those that may have been having a bad day (it happens) movement wise I do apologise. Each judge has their own opinion of what they are looking for and why they wish to place them highly, but I must say, that there was one poor youngster that had difficulty moving at all and had it been a smaller class, I would have had to withhold and I have never done that in my life of judging!

Temperament, on the whole was very good, with possibly one exception, who ironically I was contemplating awarding the class to. Need I say more? Good temperament again, is one of my must haves. I found quite a few with dirty teeth and worryingly, a wry mouth. What does surprise me is that exhibitors will spend so much time and energy on show preparation, but forget all about the teeth!

Lastly I would like to possibly repeat, what I have said, many times before and that is that, we are first and foremost, merely custodians of this delightful breed and it is our duty to nurture and protect it, as best we can and that includes improving all aspects of the breed.
Mrs Sue Stanbury

Puppy Dog (9 entries)
1st: LAFFORD INSPECTOR MORSE IN POPPYWOOD (WILKINSON Mrs. S M) There’s a great deal to like about this 11mth Tri. Lovely head with dark eyes & symmetrical blaze, Large, well placed & nicely fringed ears. Good reach of neck. Level topline. Correct fine silky coat. Straight front & well-turned stifles. Moved & showed well, earning him BDP & RBPIS.
2nd: ELFUAGO BOOYAH (AITKIN Mrs. H) Although different in type to 1st this lightly marked, 11mth R/S/W has a lot to admire and has a way of catching the eye, whilst standing and on the move, which he did well enough to secure RBPD. Has everything in the right place. Coat coming along nicely.
3rd: JORGEALIN MIDNIGHT MAGIC FOR KINGSHAVEN (BANFIELD Mr. & Mrs. Jean & Roger)
Res: PAPAROTSIE HEART BEATS AT AMICAE (WHITEHILL Mrs. M. & URWIN P)
VHC: CARAIDEAS SPELMAN (HILL Mr. & Mrs. P & J A)

Junior Dog (12 entries)
1st: TALIESYN BLACK WALNUT (GEARY Mrs. G A) At first glance, I did not expect this 12mth Tri to be my class winner, because, as has yet, hardly any coat to speak of, but as such, he has absolutely nothing to hide. Striking head and expression. Dark eyes & good mouth. Ears, well placed, set correctly. Smaller size, than some in this class, but within standard. Moved soundly around the ring. I look forward to seeing him, when mature. Has everything in the right place, just needs a little more coat & maturity to complete the picture.
2nd: SERENGLADE LEAP OF FAITH FOR TEMELORA (MORRELL Mrs. S. & Mrs T Teague) Well balanced, nicely marked 13mth old B/W Phalene. I was quite taken with this young lad. Well-shaped head & ears. Good reach of neck, which is a must, especially so for a Phalene, level top-line. Straight front and well defined stifle. Moved & showed well.

1st: ROZAMIE MONSIEUR RUFFLES (MAGRI & KEVIN ARROWSMITH Mr. J)This lightly marked 18mth R/S/W just oozed quality as he strode around the ring and didn’t he stride out. Lovely head & expression, with symmetrical blaze & black mask. Dark eyes& large, mobile, well-shaped ears. Has straight front and good turn of stifle. He has that indefinable combination of superb reach of neck, level top-line and correct tail set, which makes it impossible to turn away and gives such elegance, whilst he is on the move. Although this youngster was my choice today, I feel he has yet more to come. I wish him well and shall watch his future with interest. DCC & RBIS
2nd: FEORLIG SMARTY PANTS JW (MILLER Miss K) Another quality exhibit, which I am sure, will have a bright future. Nearly 2yr R/S/W with lovely head with dark eyes & pencil blaze and large, well-shaped and fringed ears. Possibly has more finish than 1st but today lost out on that indefinable something that I found in my winner. Never the less I would be happy to own such a dog and again, I shall watch his future with interest.

2nd: PAPPRETTY FOR EVER AND EVER AT ROSENJON (HOBSON Mrs. R) This glamourous 14 month R/S/W has as an abundance of coat & has a lovely head & expression and large, mobile ears. If anything, possibly too mobile today. He moved soundly and looked quite eye-catching when moving around the ring.

2nd: KIRKCHASE DANGER MOUSE (KIRK Mrs. E) Very glamourous & strikingly marked 3yr Tri, with so much to like about him. Showed well & did everything that was asked of him. Moved okay, but for me, unfortunate to meet up with 1st.

1st: CH BURGHBRIDGE UR SOLID GOLD SKYVANA JW ShCM (BARTRAM Mr. & Mrs. A K & E A) Nicely marked 8 1/2 yr R/S/W. This lad is a grand showman and didn’t put a foot wrong. Shown & presented in superb condition. Stood out in this class. Has all the attributes one would expect of a very worthy champion. Was pleased that he went on to win BVIS. Well done.
2nd: CH/FIN CH SILJANS RAGGE JR CONNECTION AT TUSSALUD (STEWART Kay & STEWART-KNIGHT Kirsten) Again, this 9yr old Tri, is no stranger to me, as I have given him top honours previously. As with 1st he’s got that certain something that stands out from the rest. It was a pure joy to watch him stride around the ring. Unfortunately he was not quite so happy when standing, but did more than enough to secure this placing.
3rd: TRICINABRI WISH BEAUNE AT SHALANDAR ShCM (MELVIN Mrs. M. & COX Mrs P) I would just like to give this 8 yr B/W a mention as there was such good quality in this class. This strikingly marked boy, is again known to me and he’s aged so well and certainly, his looks belie his age. He’s in superb coat & condition and is a credit to his owner. He moved and showed so well, that I thought it only fitting that I give him a mention.

Open Phalene Dog (1 entry, 1 absent)

It was a great pleasure to judge at the parent club show and a great honour that the judges are picked and voted by its members, so for a non specialist this makes it a special occasion, I feel the breed is in good form and all decisions were made in full agreement with my co-judge, a day to remember with a large quality entry ! Thank you.
